Welcome to the website for the 36th MSI's Annual Symposium. This website will contain all the important information for delegates including information on how to register, submit abstracts and the symposium programme. The 36th annual meeting in 2012 will be held in Brookfield Health Science Complex, University College Cork
Welcome from the Chair
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 36th Annual Symposium of the MSI, to be held on August 29-31,
2012 at Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC. The MSI is a multi-disciplinary, all-island research community
which deals with all aspects of microscopy. The main aim of the society is to foster discussion and cooperation
between those who use any form of microscopy in their work, be this in the academic or industrial world. The Annual
Symposium is a unique opportunity for researchers of all levels to be exposed to new ideas and innovative technological
developments which transcend traditional academic and industrial boundaries. Keynote lectures will give overviews on
new developments and state-of-the-art research in the field and will be delivered by leading experts. Historically,
the Symposium has provided an excellent forum for young researchers, particularly at postgraduate level, to present
their data and findings at a conference. We will continue to support this very strongly as this is one of the few
meetings in Ireland where PhD students of very disparate backgrounds can engage in scientific debate. We look forward
to welcoming you in Cork in August 2012 and to a very successful and rewarding MSI Symposium.
Yours sincerely,
Symposium Chairpersons
Dmitri Papkovsky
Scope
We aim to expand this meeting to encompass three core areas of the life, physical, and instrumental sciences.
As is traditional for the symposium, an equipment exhibition will be held, featuring vendors of microscopy-related equipment.
Student participation in this symposium is highly encouraged. There will also be a monetary prize for the best student presentation. Historically, the symposium has provided an excellent forum for young researchers (particularly at postgraduate level) to present their data and findings at a conference. We will continue to foster this very strongly as this is one of the few meetings in Ireland where PhD students of very disparate backgrounds can engage in scientific debate.
Topics
Abstract submissions for either poster or oral communications in any area of research involving microscopy are invited, particularly in the areas of Life and Material Sciences. The Annual Symposium is conducted in a relaxed, semiformal environment, and provides the ideal platform for students, especially those who have yet to experience a scientific meeting for the first time.
